Six people are dead and two are unaccounted for after a boat capsized on Lake Tahoe near DL Bliss State Park Saturday afternoon.
The Coast Guard said the 27-foot Chris vessel capsized due to a large swell at around 3 p.m.
The California State Parks and the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and reported six people dead, two unaccounted for.
Two survivors were rushed to an area hospital. The Sheriff’s Office said that 10 people were onboard the boat when it struggled against rough waves.
The search for the missing individuals will resume Sunday morning.
“It was a very, very tragic day on Lake Tahoe,” local boat captain Joby Cefalu said, adding that Saturday’s weather conditions were the worst he’d seen in decades.
