Missouri man charged after girlfriend, toddler daughter died in speed-involved crash

A Kansas City man has survived a fatal rollover crash he allegedly caused to face criminal charges after the deaths of his girlfriend and daughter.

Derrius Tolson, 25, was allegedly driving his Jeep Grand Cherokee at over 90 miles per hour on Saturday when he ran a red light on Bannister Road crashing into a Honda Accord trying to turn at the ramp on I-435.

  • The impact sent the Jeep rolling over multiple times before it landed upside down. Investigators suspect Tolson was racing with another car before the crash.

    Tolson’s girlfriend and 2-year-old daughter died in the crash. He suffered minor injuries and admitted to smoking marijuana and having a “few hits” that morning.

    Tolson was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter; he was booked into jail with his bond set at $100,000.
