A deadly plane crash claimed the lives of a Republican state senator from North Dakota, his wife, and their two young children Sunday evening.

Doug Larsen was the pilot of the small plane that also carried his wife and the children when it crashed shortly after taking off from Canyon Lands Airfield just after refueling in Utah.

“Senator Doug Larsen, his wife Amy, and their two young children died in a plane crash last evening in Utah,” Republican Senate Majority Leader David Hogue announced Monday.

“I’m not sure where the bereavement starts with such a tragedy, but I think it starts with prayers for the grandparents, surviving stepchild of Senator Larsen, and extended family of Doug and Amy. Hold your family close today.”

Larsen, a 29-year North Dakota Army National Guard veteran, was first elected to the State Senate in 2020.
