Lee County news, Florida news.

A Florida mother is behind bars after she allegedly risked her young child’s life by leaving him unattended inside a running vehicle and going for an ocean swim.

The incident took place at around 10:30 a.m. when Allison Sarah Daugherty blew up the radio volume and the air conditioner inside the vehicle where she left the child in diapers.

Daugherty was witnessed by multiple fishermen at Bokeelia Pier, jumping into the waters, as they shouted warning her of sharks’ presence.

Officers arrested Daugherty about half an hour later. Her child was fed and taken care of until a family member picked him up.

Across the street from the scene, staff at Capt’n Cons Fish House reported seeing the woman three times last week and that she always seemed “just off.”

“She didn’t seem drunk. She didn’t seem intoxicated,” one said.
