Female HS student gunned down near Maryland school prompting multiple lockdowns

Authorities in Prince George’s County, Maryland are looking for suspects after a shooting claimed the life of a DuVal High School student.

The girl suffered a gunshot wound near Palamar Drive and Woodstream Drive in Lanham on Monday afternoon. She was rushed to an area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

“It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the tragic loss of a DuVal High School student,” the school district confirmed.

“Grief counselors and mental health professionals will be on campus tomorrow to support students and staff as they cope with this loss.”

    Lockdowns were issued for DuVal and Lathan high schools and Robert Goddard Middle School for a couple of hours following the shooting.

    Witnesses reported that the shooting stemmed from a heated dispute between two groups.

    “Detectives are on scene working to establish suspect(s) and a motive in this case,” police said.
