Authorities in Palm Beach, Florida have arrested a woman who allegedly left three dogs to die in a hot car before getting rid of their corpses at an alligator-infested canal.
Tammy Garceau, 54, was charged with three counts each of animal cruelty, unlawful abandonment/ containment of an animal, and unlawful disposal of a dead animal over the August 8 incident.
Police said that Garceau called 911 on August 12 to report that three dogs she was watching for a friend were stolen.
However, a neighbor recalled spotting three dogs inside a hot car for several hours, days before Garceau called the police.
The neighbor recorded Garceau hosing the pets trying to cool them off. The suspect then admitted that she deliberately kept the dogs in the car because she did not want them inside her home.
Temperatures outside the car reached 92 degrees, authorities said. Garceau took officers to two locations where she tossed the dogs’ bodies.
Deputies found the remains of a dog in a wooded area. However, the two other dogs were left at a canal where “it is likely that an alligator ate them.”
