A freshman football player at Austin Peay University died in a tragic single-car crash Friday, authorities in Clarksville said.
18-year-old Jeremiah Collins was reportedly traveling at a high speed in his 2004 GMC Canyon pickup near the school's campus when he veered off-road.
Police said that Collins' truck rolled over multiple times before landing in a grassy area. The athlete was rushed to Skyline Medical Center where he passed away hours after the crash.
“We are all devastated and heartbroken by the loss of Jeremiah Collins,” said head football coach Scotty Walden in a statement.
“Jeremiah was an outstanding young man who brought an incredible attitude and energy every day. We grieve with the Collins family for their tragic loss and lift them in prayer.”
