5 teens killed when car went off road, plunged into pond in Florida

Fort Myers news, Florida news.

The bodies of five teens were recovered from a submerged car in Fort Myers, Florida after a tragic crash that took place late Sunday.

Four of the victims, aged between 18 and 19, were workers at the Fort Myers Texas Roadhouse.

Amanda Ferguson, Eric Cox, Breanna Coleman, and Jackson Eyre, were positively identified as coworkers at the steakhouse.

The fifth victim's identity was not available as of Tuesday morning.

  • Fort Mayers Police Department spokesperson Kristin Capuzzi said that the three men and two women drowned in the black Kia sedan that went off-road on Interstate 75 and plunged into a pond.

    “It took a long time to get (that car) out,” Capuzzi said.

    The grieving families of Cox and Eyre revealed that they had just graduated from high school and had big plans for the future.

    “Anytime someone passes, we lose a little bit of who we are. It hurts even more when it's one of our own,” Eyre's HS baseball team wrote.

    “We ask everyone in the community to pray for his family and friends, as we get through this impossibly difficult time together.”
