Teen camper, 13, dies after being struck by boat propeller in Minnesota

Authorities in Frazee, Minnesota said that a 13-year-old boy died in a freak accident Thursday afternoon while attending a Christian summer camp.

The tragic accident involving a boat propeller occurred at around 4:15 p.m. on Lake Six, the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office said.

The Camp Cherith attendee, later identified as Benjamin Rennie, was struck by a boat propeller during water activities.

Investigators said that the victim and another boy fell off a tube being pulled by a boat operated by a camp employee.

  • Rennie was accidentally hit by the boat as he was being picked up from the waters; both teens were reportedly wearing life jackets at the time of the incident.

    After being pulled from the water, the boy received life-saving measures as officials alerted 911.

    “Staff members attempted life-saving care while emergency responders were en route,” Camp Cherith executive director Kendra Mohn said.

    “I am sad to say, professionals were not able to save the camper's life. Please pray for this camper's family and all those grieving after this accident.”

    An investigation into the incident is ongoing but authorities ruled out foul play involvement in the tragic death.
