A Florida teen drowned late Sunday after a Jet Ski incident that occurred while he wasn't wearing a life jacket, Polk County authorities said.
The 17-year-old victim was reportedly riding a jet ski on Lake Clinch with a 15-year-old who was wearing a life jacket, authorities said.
When the older teen tried an abrupt turn, both teens fell into the water with the surviving teen getting back into the jet ski and beginning a search for his friend and alerting others.
It took rescuers hours to locate the victim's body in around 20 feet of water, authorities said.
“This is a tragic accident and a stark reminder that life jackets save lives,” Sheriff Grady Judd said.
“Please, when out on the water, wear a life jacket. It could save your life.”
