NC toddler drowns in pool: 'If you blink, your kids can be gone'

A 3-year-old boy drowned in a pool at his Caldwell County home early Sunday morning and his grieving mother is now warning other parents of drowning dangers.

The child managed to wander outside the home during the night despite a child-proof safety latch on the back door.

  • “Don't blink. If you blink, your kids can be gone,” the victim's mother said. “Make sure your pool is secure. Make sure your house is secure. I don't want another family feeling this pain.”

    An investigation into the incident has been launched. The Gamewell fire department echoed the mother's advice urging people to implement precautionary measures around pools.

    “Secure your gate. Make sure that you do know who is coming in and going out. With children, obviously proper floatation devices,” Chief Micahel Brewer said.
