A 19-year-old Pennsylvania college baseball player is dead after a makeshift dugout fell on him, authorities said.
Angel Mercado-Ocasio didn't survive his injuries after the dugout he was helping disassemble collapsed on him late Tuesday.
The medical examiner's office in Cumberland County stated that Mercado-Ocasio died from a traumatic head injury after he was injured by the frame of the structure.
Mercado-Ocasio's death left the community devastated with Harrisburg Mayor describing the incident as “heart-wrenching.”
Fellow teammates mourned the untimely death of the small, quiet Central Penn College student with a big heart.
“He didn't care who he was going up against, I feel like he had whatever he had in him to try and beat the opponent,” teammate Francisco Escudero said.
“I still can't believe that Angel is gone.”
