Three people were killed and another is hospitalized after a shooting at Philadelphia's Lawncrest neighborhood, police said Friday.
At least two of the three decedents were students, an 8th grader and an 11th grader from The Mathematics, Civics, and Sciences Charter School Inc., authorities said.
The incident occurred at around 3:30 p.m. on the 5900 block of Palmetto Street where officers declared the three slain victims, aged from 15 to 20, dead at the scene.
One of the bodies was found on a sidewalk, the other on a porch and the third inside a home.
A 16-year-old was taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds to the stomach; the two individuals who took the teen to the hospital were arrested for questioning.
“This is getting worse and worse and something needs to be done,” a resident of the neighborhood said.
“There's violence across the whole U.S. But Philadelphia has a problem and something needs to be done.”
No arrests were made in connection with the shooting as detectives urge witnesses to come forward.
“It's frustrating 'cause again, I know the work that our men and women are doing in trying to stop, trying to prevent, these types of incidents from happening,” Deputy Commissioner John Stanford said.
“But again, we can't lose hope, because if we lose hope, everyone in this city will lose hope.”
