Authorities in Florida arrested a woman whose toddler son drowned in a retention pond while she was sleeping Sunday morning.
3-year-old Azriyh Santiago was spotted leaving the home at around 6:45 a.m. carrying a tablet, police said.
“He was seen looking around and then ran directly toward the pond when the video ends.”
When Myra Santiago finally woke up at around 1:45 p.m., police were already surrounding the scene.
Police said that Azriyh had previously left the home unnoticed multiple times but his mother still didn't buy locks, claiming she had no money for that.
She did, however, purchase marijuana and several alcohol bottles that officers found in her home along with more than $100 in cash.
Investigators learned that the mom left Azriyh for nearly four hours Saturday night before texting a neighbor asking her to “tell the police you watched Azriyh last night” and that “I came and got him from your place at 2 or 3.”
