Washington DC news, Washington news.

On Tuesday, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy sided with former President Donald Trump to describe the potential indictment by Manhattan's District Attorney as a “political game.”

“What we see before us is a political game being played by a local... Look this isn't New York City, this is just a Manhattan, this is just a borough DA. Okay,” McCarthy told reporters.

“I have not talked to the President, maybe three weeks? No, I have not talked to him about the investigation at all.”

“We're not talking about this in our conference; you're asking about it,” he answered.

The House Speaker was then asked if he thought Trump dominating the news was the synonym for him being the leader of the Republican Party.

“In the press room, for all of you, he is,” McCarthy replied.
