Pair admits to quadruple homicide at Dallas apartment during attempted robbery

Two suspects were arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of four people at a Dallas apartment early Sunday.

Artemio Maldonado, 18, and Azucena Sanchez, 20, were apprehended hours later and charged with capital murder after admitting to shooting two men and two women dead during a robbery.

Sanchez, who was the ex-girlfriend of one of the victims and in the midst of a custody dispute over their child, told detectives that she and her accomplice were planning to rob money from the home they thought was empty.

  • But when the four victims tried to stop them, Sanchez and Maldonado shot all four dead before robbing an empty box they thought contained cash.

    Police were alerted to the massacre at about 7 p.m. when someone tried to contact the victims after not hearing from them.

    Police Spokeswoman Kristin Lowman said that an unharmed infant was found inside the apartment adding that the shooting may have occurred at around 1 a.m. but wasn't reported at that time.

    The suspected pair's vehicle was located at around 9:30 p.m. Sunday not far from the scene and they were arrested shortly after 10 p.m.
