Tragic crash in Missouri kills officer, K-9, & pedestrian when car collided with police cruiser

Kansas City authorities are investigating a deadly collision that claimed the lives of a pedestrian, an officer, and a K-9 on Wednesday.

Police said that the pedestrian and the police dog died at the scene of the crash involving a police cruiser and a car.

Officer James Muhlbauer succumbed to his injuries at a hospital; Kansas City Police said that the K-9 named Champ had been living with Muhlbauer and his family since joining the force one year ago.

  • “Rest In Peace, Officer James Muhlbauer and K-9 Officer Champ,” the KCPD said in a statement.

    “The partners were killed in the line of duty Wednesday night when a vehicle crashed into them while they were on patrol.”

    “Muhlbauer was a 20-year veteran of KCPD, while K-9 Champ was with us for one year.”

    “We're hurt; K-9 Champ lived with Muhlbauer and his family. Muhlbauer was married and a father. Please pray for them.”
