More than 100 firefighters responded to a massive fire that was intentionally set Thursday by a non-compliant suspect at a Los Angeles Apartment complex.
Police initially responded to the two-story apartment building in Westlake over reports of a disturbance at the complex.
Once there, the knife-armed suspect started throwing burning items at officers barricading himself inside an apartment that quickly caught flames.
The suspect jumped out of a balcony and was arrested but the flames spread throughout the building due to heavy winds triggering a multi-alarm fire.
One person sustained injuries while other residents of the building were safely evacuated. Firefighters battled the flames for nearly an hour, following a “surround and drown” strategy to restrain the fire before it catches nearby buildings.
