The killer of a California father-of-three had died in jail months after his death sentence was overturned by LA District Attorney George Gascon.

The death of Scott Forrest Collins was confirmed by his victim's daughter who said Wednesday that the inmate died around January 15 adding that autopsy results were still pending.

Collins was 21 years old when he shot 41-year-old Fred Rose execution-style during a robbery in 1992. He was sentenced to death until September 2022 when DA Gascon overturned his death sentence and ordered his imprisonment for life without the possibility of parole.

“We're not asking for his release, we're asking that his sentence be commuted to life without the possibility of parole,” Gascon's special assistant Alex Bastian said of the decision.

“That is something that is I think important to note. We are not asking that he be resentenced to something that would put him in front of a parole board.”
