Authorities said that the massacre of a family of eight in Enoch City was the doing of a 42-year-old father apparently angered by his wife's plans for divorce.
Michael Haight, an Allstate Insurance agent, abandoned his job days before opening fire inside his Enoch City home, killing all his five children, aged between 17 and 4, their 40-year-old mother Tausha Haight, and grandmother, 78-year-old Gail Earl before taking his own life.
Investigators said that the gunman perpetrated the massacre two weeks after Tausha Haights filed for divorce.
“At this time, we do not believe there is a threat to the public or that there are any suspects at large,” police said.
On Thursday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre issued a word on behalf of President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden to the Enoch City community in the aftermath of the gruesome slayings.
“Less than one month after we marked 10 years since the Sandy Hook tragedy, another mass shooting has claimed the lives of five more children in Enoch City,” she added.
