A four-day-old girl was mauled to death by her family dog last week and police said that the victim was not even named yet when tragedy struck.
The baby was attacked in broad daylight on December 14. Doctors at Arkansas Children’s Northwest Hospital in Springdale and in Little Rock couldn’t save her.
“On Wednesday, December 14, my office was notified by the Cave Springs Police Department that they were investigating the death of a 4-day-old girl,” Benton County Prosecutor Nathan Smith said.
“Based on the statements of the witnesses and the opinions of medical professionals, it was determined that the fatal injuries were inflicted on the child by the family dog.”
Police said that the involved dog had since been euthanized.
“While the investigation is ongoing, at this point I do not expect that it will result in criminal charges,” Smith added.
