Indian migrant falls to death off San-Diego-Tijuana border while holding toddler

An Indian migrant died in Tijuana Wednesday after falling off the US-Mexico border while holding his toddler son who survived.

Tijuana authorities identified the deceased father as 50-year-old Brijkumar Daxiniprasad. His surviving son was 3 years old.

Daxiniprasad fell to the ground, on the Mexican side of the border, while scaling over the 30-foot steel barrier and sustained a fatal head injury.

  • The victim’s wife also jumped off the fence and sustained a fractured hip and an arm wound. She is being treated at a San Diego hospital.

    According to Mexico’s National Institute of Migration, the family was among a group of 40 migrants who were at the scene trying to cross the border.

    Three dozen were successful before they were intercepted by U.S. Border Patrol agents. Following the tragedy, nine migrants crossed the border but were also arrested by border agents.
