Holland ousted the USA from the round of 16 of the World Cup after three wonderful goals and an impressive performance.
The USA team was high-spirited and determined to make their way to the next round, especially with the pale image the Dutch had reflected during the group stage.
But Holland’s Memphis Depay managed to score his country’s first goal in the tenth minute of the game. The goal came after an elaborated twenty-pass combination in a way that a Dutch newspaper described as reminiscent of grinding teeth.
Inter defender Denzel Dumfries was left all alone at the back post when he sent the ball to Daley Blind who added the second goal breaking Americans’ hearts.
USA’s substitute Haji Wright managed to offer his team a little hope when he scored a miraculous goal in the far corner of the Dutch nets.
The American hopes faded away soon afterward when Demfries volleyed a wonderful ball into the American goal.
“They were fantastic goals,” Dutch Coach Louis Van Gaal said following his team’s victory. “The first was of a beauty and team spirit.”
