Charleston news, South Carolina news.

The parents of a 2-year-old boy were arrested this week after authorities learned he was left alone in a South Carolina apartment while they were in the Big Apple.

Charleston Police received a call from an apartment building manager on Folly Road over a toddler left unattended in an apartment.

When the manager could not contact any adult in the apartment, he conducted “an emergency walk-through” and found the boy sleeping on a bed in the empty home.

  • Officers and child services responded to the home and helped charge the boy’s dirty diaper and clothes. He was then transported to Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital for an evaluation.

The child’s parents were contacted by police after multiple tries. The father claimed that he was “a few states away” for business and thought the child was with his mother.

He later changed his story, revealing that the mother also was in New York “for an emergency.”

They both were arrested Monday on charges of unlawful conduct toward a child; they posted bond and were set free Wednesday, jail records show.
