California man deliberately plows car into police recruits hurting at least 25

A California man was arrested Wednesday on charges of attempted murder after he intentionally plowed his car into a group of police cadets on a training run in Whittier.

Nicholas Joseph Gutierrez, 22, was traveling on the wrong side of the road before he suddenly swerved the SUV into the 75 police recruits.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Alex Villanueva said that a total of 25 officers were sent to local hospitals with five listed in critical condition.

    Villanueva added that the cadets were assigned to the STAR Explore Training Academy and represented several police agencies.

    Two of the victims were recruits from the Bell Police Department, two from the Glendale Police Department, one from Pasadena, and the others from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department.
