Mystery after 4 University of Idaho students found dead in off-campus housing

Authorities in Moscow, Idaho are investigating the Sunday deaths of four University of Idaho students as homicides.

The victims were identified as Ethan Chapin, and Xana Kernodle, both 20, and Madison Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves, 21.

Few details were revealed about the four college students’ murders but according to Art Bettge, the mayor of Moscow, the incident was a “crime of passion” and a “senseless act of violence.”

  • “With a crime of this magnitude, it’s very difficult to work through,” he said adding that the murders were “targeted and one-off situation.”

    Hours before the tragedy, Goncalves shared a photo of herself and the three other victims smiling and standing together on the porch of their off-campus housing.

    “She was looking forward to her job in tech starting on 1/1,” Goncalves’ devastated family said. “A move to Texas, road trips in her just purchased Range Rover, and a trip she planned out to Europe.”

    “She’d never stop fighting for us and demanding the truth and justice and neither will we.”
