A Texas death row inmate was executed by lethal injection on Wednesday, nearly two decades after slaughtering his mother and burying the body in her backyard.
The execution of Tracy Beatty, 61, was carried out at the Huntsville State Penitentiary. Beatty was officially dead at 6:39 p.m.
Authorities said that Beatty’s mother, Carolyn Ruth “Callie” Click was 62-year-old when he killed her on Nov. 25, 2003, and buries her body in the backyard of her mobile home. Beatty then stole the victim’s money and spent it on drugs and alcohol.
Several requests to delay Beatty’s execution were declined. In 2020, his defense successfully changed the execution date multiple times during the pandemic.
“I’m not worried about it. And I’ve already made my peace with the Man. So, I know where I’m going,” Beatty said on Oct. 12 about his execution.
“I’ll be in a lot better place than this,” he added.
