San Jose college football player, 18, killed in crash while riding electric scooter

A San Jose University football player is dead after he was struck by a school bus while riding an electric scooter just blocks from the campus, police said.

Camdan McWright, 18, did not survive his injuries after the crash that occurred at around 7 a.m. Friday and died at the scene.

“The 18-year-old pedestrian riding an electric scooter was traveling south on 10th Street and entered the intersection at the crosswalk and was crossing to the opposing sidewalk,” CHP Officer Mike Lee said.

“He was in the crosswalk when he was struck by the bus. He did sustain fatal injuries immediately at the scene.”

    “We lost an amazing young man tragically this morning,” SJ State Coach Brent Brennan said.

    “Camdan had a bright future ahead of him, and everyone in this community that had the opportunity to spend time with him knew that.”

    The victim, who was named MVP of his high school league, was expected to turn 19 in December.

    The SJSU postponed their Saturday’s game against New Mexico State following McWright’s tragic death.
