Stockton news, California news.

Authorities in California announced Saturday that the suspected Stockton serial killer who terrorized the community for 18 months is finally in custody.

Wesley Brownlee, 43, was identified as the killer who shot seven people to death in Stockton and Oakland. He was busted at around 2 a.m. Saturday as he prowled his new kill.

“Early this morning, he was on a mission to kill, he was out hunting,” Stockton Police Chief Stanley McFadden said Saturday.

“He was wearing dark clothing and had a mask around his neck. He was also armed with a firearm when he was taken into custody. We are sure we stopped another killing.”

The police chief added that as he drove across the Central Valley city, where he previously shot five victims dead, Brownlee appeared to look for dark places, and stopped to look around before driving on.

Brownlee seemed to target Hispanic, homeless victims; only one of them survived after being shot nine times.

McFadden said on Saturday that Brownlee’s “reign of terror” was over thanks to hundreds of “community tips” and “good old-fashioned police work.
