A man standing near the burning body of his mother in the front yard of a Truro home was arrested on murder charges Friday.
34-year-old Adam Howe ran inside the home when officers arrived at the home at around 9:30 p.m. and found a human body on fire.
“A family member had called and asked to check on the residence,” Assistant District Attorney Tara Miltimore said.
The victim was identified as 69-year-old Susan Howe. She was the president of the Truro Historical Society and the chair of the Commission on Disabilities.
Susan brought immense creativity, energy, time, and passion to our organization,” The Truro Historical Society said in a statement.
“She loved Truro, and was totally committed to preserving our history and culture and the well-being of her beloved town. She was committed to the community and besides the THS, she was very involved in many organizations.”
The suspect will undergo a mental health evaluation before his arraignment.
