On-duty Colorado officer killed while responding to disturbance call

An Arvada Police officer was killed early Sunday while responding to reports of a disturbance, authorities said.

Officer Dillon Michael Vakoff was among law enforcement responding to the chaotic scene of a disturbance on the 6700 block of West 51st Avenue in Arvada.

  • A male suspect fired shots at the crowd hitting Vakoff and a woman. The officer succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.

    The woman and the suspected shooter were also taken to the hospital and are expected to survive.

    Authorities said that the suspect is currently in custody as the investigation into the deadly incident proceeds.
