A plane carrying two people crashed into a truck on a Riverside County, California highway before it burst into flames Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities said that miraculously, none of the plane or truck occupiers were harmed in the dramatic crash that occurred at around 12:30 p.m. near Lincoln Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the pilot of the small plane told investigators that he had to make an emergency landing on the freeway following an engine failure.
The aircraft was headed to Corona Municipal Airport. Footage of the aftermath showed a trail of burning fuel along the eastbound lanes of the 91 Freeway.
“Very fortunate today that the traffic was light, and the pilot appears to have made some good landing navigation that avoided what could have been a very bad tragedy,” CHP Capt. Levi Miller said.
