Washington DC news, Washington news.

A retired Metropolitan Police Officer is facing involuntary manslaughter charges after he fatally shot a 25-year-old female library officer during ASP baton training.

The incident took place at the Anacostia Neighborhood Library in DC on Thursday at around 3:30 p.m. when former Office Jesse Porter accidentally shot Maurica Manyan during the training.

Other library officers who witnessed the events said that the group was about to take a photo together at the end of the training when Manyan asked to remove her mask.

Porter then grabbed a gun he thought was a replica training firearm and jokingly fired toward the victim, but it turned out the gun was real with live ammunition.

He also performed CPR on Manyan, desperately trying to keep her alive.

“There are props and firearm lookalikes that are in a training environment. They were present in this environment,” Chief Police Contee III said.

“But why and what kind of was in his mind at this time, I don’t know the answer to that.”
