Border Patrol agents chased human smuggling vehicle leading to fatal crash in Encinal: 4 killed, 3 critical

A vehicle carrying illegal migrants and human smugglers crashed Thursday in Encinal, Texas during a high-speed chase leaving at least four people dead.

Border Patrol agents went after the suspected vehicle, a white Jeep, less than 40 miles from the border town of Laredo before the driver lost control and crashed into the back of an 18-wheeler on Highway 44 in Encinal, Texas.

  • “The driver suspected of human smuggling evaded law enforcement & crashed into a commercial vehicle,” Texas DPS said in a statement late on Thursday.

    Public safety authorities said that the four victims were occupants of the Jeep adding that three others were hospitalized in critical condition. Identities were not publicly revealed.
