Decomposed body found at Tallahassee home after auction selling

A badly decomposed body was discovered at a home sold at auction Friday afternoon, Tallahassee police said in a statement.

Police believe the human remains belonged to the home’s former owner, identified as 58-year-old Avis Anderson.

  • The woman, who was struggling with drug abuse, was reported missing in October 2020 but her neighbors did not spot her for two months prior to that time.

    Her bank account had not been used since her disappearance and her property was declared vacant. The body was found during the cleaning process, police added.

    “Everyone has their own demons and their own challenges,” Anderson’s cousin said. “That does not make her any less of someone we love.”
