A Florida man is still clinging to life after an Osceola County Sheriff’s deputy Tasered him while he was covered in gasoline earlier this year.
26-year-old Jean Barreto sustained third-degree burns after one of several deputies used a stun gun on him during an altercation right after he had fueled his dirt bike at an Orlando Wawa gas station on Feb. 27.
The taser engulfed “almost his entire body in flames and approximately half of the other deputy’s as well,” Barreto’s lawyers said.
“This fireball, caused by the reckless, foolish, unnecessary” use of the weapon led to “the horrific explosion, engulfing the two of them and injuring 2 other deputies with minor burns.”
The lawyers of Barreto, who was reportedly not armed at the time of the incident, say that the man suffers in pain and is in dire condition since the tragedy.
“Mr. Barreto is still undergoing potentially life-saving but excruciating treatment. He is without skin on most of his body, his skin having been burned off. He undergoes procedures that require his dead skin to be routinely peeled off of his body. Mr. Barreto will again be placed in a medically induced coma over the next couple of days.”
