Rugby star killed in car crash in Texas as 16-year-old teen fled cops

Authorities in Texas said that a South African rugby star met his fate Friday outside of Houston when he crashed into the car of a fleeing teen.

Pedrie Wannenburg, 41, died and six people were hospitalized with various injuries when the 16-year-old suspect fleeing cops struck four vehicles in his way.

“One of our units attempted to conduct a traffic stop at Greenhouse RD & Little York when the vehicle fled. The suspect vehicle then struck two other vehicles,” Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said on Twitter.

  • Wannenberg was reportedly traveling with his wife and two children at the time of the accident; his son, 8, was hospitalized in critical condition.

    Suspect Ali Alabadi was reportedly traveling 100 miles per hour before the crash at around 5:45 p.m.

    He was charged with felony murder, reckless aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, and aggravated assault causing bodily injury.
