7 Texas prisoners charged over attack that killed 2 fellow inmates

Texas authorities have charged seven inmates with murder over a January attack that left two fellow inmates dead at a federal prison facility in Beaumont.

Prosecutors said that on Jan. 31, the seven defendants, who are members of the MS-13 gang attacked two rival gang members within the facility and killed them.

    “Deterring prison violence remains a priority for the Department,” US Attorney Brit Featherston said. “Any prisoner who causes physical injury to another, inmate or corrections officer, will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

    According to the indictment, Guillermo Riojas and Andrew Pineda were stabbed to death during the incident and two other inmates sustained injuries.
