A woman in east Tennessee was reportedly mauled to death by her own dog who then stood over her body and wouldn’t allow deputies to approach.
The mauling incident took place on March 30 at around 7 p.m. when witnesses called the police to report that a woman was being attacked by her dog in Tellico Village.
Once at the scene, Loudon County Sheriff’s deputies found the woman’s body lying on the ground and a big black dog guarding it.
“Deputies were unable to approach the victim due to the potential attack from the dog, and an LCSO deputy was forced to shoot and kill the animal,” authorities said in a statement.
The victim, who had not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Knox County Regional Forensic Center is conducting an autopsy.
