Student shots another in South Carolina middle school

The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday that a middle schooler shot another before fleeing the scene.

The shooting occurred at around 12:30 p.m. and involved two male juveniles, the sheriff’s office added, both of whom were students at the Tanglewood Middle School.

More than 100 deputies responded to the scene before the gunman was located near the school and apprehended without incident. The victim is currently hospitalized in an unknown condition.

  • “It’s been a very trying situation for sure. Our heart goes out to the family, all the families involved,” Greenville County Sheriff Hobart Lewis said.

    “We certainly ask that you pray for the family of the victim, for sure as information develops about his status, but also for children at the school.”

    “It’s a very traumatic time for them, so please keep them and their families in your thoughts and prayers,” he added.
