A Ukrainian volunteer had been gunned down by Russian troops on her way back home after delivering food to a dog shelter, miles outside Kyiv.
Anastasiia Yalanskaya’s car was purposely targeted at close-range as she and two other volunteers returned after delivering the much-needed food to the shelter where animals had been hungry for three days.
She had posted a final picture of her smiling inside the car next to bags of food hours before the massacre.
“I asked her to be extra cautious,” her grieving husband said. “That nowadays, a mistake costs extremely much. But she was helping everyone around. I asked her to think of evacuation but she did not listen.”
“She was one of the best human beings I knew. She was committed to help, to help her friends and relatives and whoever needed help.”
He added: “She loved animals. We had a dog and a cat. She was the best partner I ever had.”
