President Joe Biden’s first State of the Union address is set for Tuesday evening amid disconcerting circumstances of falling approval rates, the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, and threats of nuclear weapon use.
The address comes as Biden’s approval rates sit at around 41 percent according to the latest Yahoo News/YouGov poll that also revealed that six in every 10 Americans find that the current administration didn’t keep much of its campaign promises.
A February 16 Quinnipiac University survey showed that only 35 percent of the participants approved of Biden’s job in his first year in office while 55 percent disapproved and 9 percent declined to answer.
According to The Washington Post, President Biden’s team has revised today’s address “to emphasize Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine as a major crisis facing the West.”
“The new version will reflect the way the crisis has added urgency to his longtime theme of defending democracies.”
