Newly-released autopsy documents revealed that Brian Laundrie had taken his own life by shooting the left side of his skull although he was right-handed.
Investigators believe that the 23-year-old shot himself using his non-dominant hand weeks before his skeletal remains were found in the Carlton Nature Reserve on October 20.
“Skeletal remains and personal effects were in plain sight and scattered upon the dirt ground at the scene that included trees and overgrown vegetation that had total exposure to the outside elements.”
The autopsy reports also revealed that when Laundrie’s remains were discovered, there was no soft tissue left on the bones.
“Multiple long bones including bones of the arms and legs all disclose carnivore predation activity characterized by gnawing and chewing.”
Laundrie is believed to be the killer of his girlfriend, Gabby Petito, whose remains were located in September within Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Forest.
