A petition calling for the release of Texas brothers accused of beating their stepfather to death after learning he abused their 9-year-old sister had gathered more than 230,000 signatures.
Alexandro and Christian Trevino, respectively 18 and 17, were charged with capital murder and aggravated assault among other charges over the beating death of 42-year-old Gabriel Quintanilla who was then left to die in a secluded field.
A third teen, 18-year-old Juan Eduardo Melendez, is also charged in connection with the incident for helping the brothers.
“The three teenagers are currently in custody and have their bonds set at over 1 million dollars each,” the petition read.
“If convicted of capital murder, they face a minimum sentence of life imprisonment without parole.”
“We ask that the state of Texas release these teenagers, who could possibly spend the rest of their life in prison for protecting their sister.”
