MARTA CEO & renowned transportation leader killed in train crash

The CEO and General Manager of the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) had been fatally struck by a train in a Friday suicide incident.

Jeffery Parker was pronounced dead in the East Lake Station in DeKalb County at around 10:30 p.m. Friday. He was 55.

“He was an outstanding leader and steward of MARTA whose passing leaves us all heartbroken,” MARTA Chairwoman Rita Scott said.

    Among those who mourned Parker’s passing, Gov. Brian Kemp said that the decedent “had an incredible mind for transportation and logistics and a heart for people.”
