A Dallas teen, 18, was fatally shot at her family home when a stray bullet struck her while sleeping in her bed, police said.
Crystal Rodriguez had just graduated from high school before becoming the victim of a drive-by shooting that occurred at around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia was visibly upset during a press conference and insisted Rodriguez and her family were not targeted but randomly involved in the fatal shooting.
“The suspects that we’re looking for are cowards that have no respect for human life, that shot indiscriminately into a home and took the life of an 18-year-old woman; that’s their description,” he said.
“It was a cowardly act. When acts like this happen, I get angry, and we take it personal. I take it personal. The men and women of this department take it personal.”
The victim’s grieving mom recalled finding her “in the middle of the floor, bleeding.”
“I don’t know where it’s coming from. My daughter did not deserve this. She did not deserve to die.”
