Texas authorities said that a small aircraft carrying migrants across the El Paso border had crashed Thursday, near the town of Presidio.
Presidio County Sheriff’s deputies rushed to the scene north of Presidio Lely International Airport at about 4 p.m. and immediately understood that the plane crash was actually a “smuggling attempt gone wrong.”

Several passengers were injured while others were apprehended but there were no reports of fatalities.
Detectives said that the four-seat jet had six people aboard and not enough fuel, which may have led to the crash, according to preliminary reports.
Authorities are now looking for the pilot who ran away from the crash scene.
