The preliminary investigation into a deadly shark attack that killed a 31-year-old surfer on Christmas Eve suggests the man was mauled to death by a Great White.

Authorities declined to publicly identify the unfortunate surfer who had crossed paths with the aquatic monster shortly before 10:45 a.m. in Morro Bay.

Harbor Director Eric Endersby confirmed to local news outlets that although there were no witnesses to the attack, it was “definitely, clearly a shark attack” involving a Great White shark.
