The celebration of Taylor Swift’s album’s re-release is deemed a super-spreader event after at least 100 attendees tested positive for Covid.
The artist herself was not present at the “On Repeat: Taylor Swift Red Party” event that took place last Friday and saw hundreds of fans gathering to celebrate the 2012 album “Red”.
“Anyone who attended the party at Sydney’s Metro Theatre on 10 December is a close contact and must immediately get tested and isolated for 7 days,” New South Wales Health said in a warning.
The official statement added that more than 97 cases were positive for Covid and were directly connected to the event.
“It is likely some of these cases have the Omicron variant of concern,” the alert added.
Local health officials have already concealed music and social gatherings ahead of Christmas as they deal with a disturbing surge of positive cases.
“NSW Health considered that the ongoing spread of Covid-19 in the Newcastle area… presents too great a risk for the festival to take place this weekend.”
