FBI leads search for woman who fell off Carnival Cruise ship

A woman in her mid-20s had fallen off the Carnival Cruise ship early Saturday morning and the FBI is now leading the search for her.

The US Coast Guard had been since the tragic incident investigating the circumstances leading up to the fall and searching waters off Ensenada coast for over 30 hours to no avail.

Upon its return to Long Beach, California Sunday morning, FBI agents began their investigation aboard the ship.

  • “We responded due to the circumstances since we have jurisdiction on the high seas. Whether accidental, foul play or otherwise, we look for evidence to determine what actually occurred,” an FBI spokesperson said.

    The victim, a 25-year-old mother, was reportedly traveling on the ship along with her boyfriend and a relative when she leaped from the fifth-floor balcony of her stateroom.

    “I can’t believe something happened to her,” a passenger who met with the woman during the trip said. “Sweet young lady, you know. A sweet soul and she’s gone.”

    “And this lady is 25-year-old with a baby. A one-year-old child. That baby will ever see his mom.”
